Microsoft has instructed approximately 700-800 cloud computing and AI employees in China to consider relocating to other countries like the US, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. This measure is a response to increased restrictions imposed by the US government on Beijing’s access to advanced technology.

The US government has been working to limit China’s advancements in AI technology, which could have potential military applications. In recent months, the US has implemented restrictions on China’s procurement of advanced chips and equipment used in AI model creation.

Microsoft’s decision to ask employees to consider relocating is part of these broader US efforts. The company has not officially confirmed the reports.

There are concerns in the US about the potential misuse of AI models, which can analyze large amounts of data and potentially be used for malicious purposes such as cyberattacks or biological weapon development.
