A recent study by the nonprofit Brookings Institution found that Russian state-affiliated accounts have been increasing their presence and engagement on TikTok in preparation for the upcoming U.S. presidential election.
According to the report, Russia is using TikTok more and more to spread messages from the Kremlin in both English and Spanish. State-linked accounts are posting on the platform much more often now compared to two years ago.
These accounts are also present on various other social media platforms, but they are more popular on Telegram and X compared to TikTok. Despite this, the report shows that user interaction, such as likes, views, and shares, is higher on TikTok than on Telegram or X.
