Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Microsoft plans to invest $1.7 billion in the next four years to build new cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Indonesia. This investment is the largest in the company's history in Indonesia, where Microsoft has been operating for 29 years.

Microsoft is a major player in cloud computing and has recently integrated an AI chatbot into its search engine, Bing, to advance its presence in artificial intelligence. Their earnings report for the January-March quarter showed a 20% increase in profit, as the company aims to become a frontrunner in using AI technology to enhance workplace productivity.

Microsoft views Southeast Asia as an expanding market and a possible area for further development of AI products. The increasing use of AI in this region is predicted to have a major effect on its economy. A study conducted by Kearney, a consulting company, suggested that AI could add nearly $1 trillion to Southeast Asia's GDP by 2030, with Indonesia projected to benefit the most with $366 billion.

On Tuesday, it was announced that an investment will be made to provide AI training for 840,000 individuals and to support the increasing number of technology developers in Indonesia.
